Big Projects to Make Your Home Feel More Luxurious

Luxury white bedroom with dark brown hardwood floors and a large grey and white bed.

We spent a lot of time in our homes in 2020. From doing schoolwork at the kitchen table to sharing the study, to finding ways to turn the basement into a playroom, we did what we needed to do survive within our own four walls. Now that we’re embarking on a new year, it’s a great time to start a project that’s more of a want than a need. Here are four larger projects you can do to make your home feel more luxurious.

The Bathroom: A swanky bathroom is a great start if you’re thinking about ways to make your home feel fancy. If you like long baths, consider a whirlpool tub, oversized tub, or clawfoot tub. Depending on what you decide, you might also want a stand-alone shower so you aren’t climbing over those deep walls every day. If a new bathtub isn’t in the budget or your bathroom isn’t large enough, an upgraded toilet and modern sink with an elevated bowl can be a statement piece too. Once you give the room a fresh coat of paint, a pop of color, and some fluffy towels, you’ll be on your way to feeling like you’ve walked into the spa. Renovating a bathroom can be a big job if you’re expanding the room or relocating the plumbing, but it doesn’t have to be. Whether the project is large or small, TruBlue has the expertise to make it perfect.

The Walls: This might seem strange, but bare walls can make a place feel ultra-modern – or bare and boring. If you want your house to feel more upscale, start thinking about your wall art, hangings, moldings, textures and other decorative elements. It’s easy to overdo the walls, but the right combination can make a huge impact. Consider the colors of the art as well as the colors of the frames and curtains in the room as you decide what to hang where. Also, while we’re talking about curtains, try hanging them closer to the ceiling to make your room look bigger. Not into hanging things on the walls? Try an accent wall or just a more modern paint job. We can help with all of these projects!

The Bedroom: Luxurious bedrooms are all about textures – sleek furniture combined with plushy rugs and soft bedding. When you are thinking about bedroom renovations, it can be tough to think beyond the furniture, but take a step back and look at the whole room. What kind of flooring would be ideal? Can you change the lights or upgrade that old ceiling fan to something more sleek and unique? How are you using the wall and storage space? Of course it’s amazing to be able to carve out space for an en suite or a walk-in closet if you have the square footage, but if you’re restricted by space, treat the room like a blank slate and find ways to maximize what you have available. Even a DIY fabric headboard can make a difference.

The Clutter: While this is likely the cheapest project, it’s also maybe the hardest to do. We don’t know about you, but it just feels better to be a clean, clutter-free space. While it would seem easier to keep a cleaner home when many of us have spent more time at home, it seems like our lives are literally strewn across the kitchen table. Take the time to consider what you want living on your counters, what books should be on the shelves, where the kids’ toys should go… we know it’s hard to maintain, but once you declutter and either recycle, reuse, donate, store or pitch the stuff you don’t need right now, you’ll feel better. If you need help with building storage, installing shelves or tackling any decluttering projects, we’re here to help. We can also help you keep your home clean!
