How Regular Maintenance Can Help You Avoid Costly Repairs

Tool belt with paint brush, chisel, hammer, wrench and pliers.

We take our vehicles in for regular maintenance. We get our air conditioners and furnaces tuned up. We clean our gutters in the spring and fall. We go to the doctor every year. We go to the dentist every six months. The list goes on and on, but you know what’s not usually on the list? Regular, ongoing maintenance for what’s typically our biggest investment – our home.

Crazy, right? When you step back and think about doing regular home maintenance, the importance becomes pretty obvious, but we just haven’t been trained to think about our homes the same way we think about our vehicles or our health. When something breaks – you get it fixed and then you deal with the big, unexpected bill. At TruBlue, we want to change that mindset for one really important reason: regular maintenance will save you money.

Let’s look at a few examples…

Here’s an easy one – plumbing. We’ve all had drippy, leaky faucets over the years. Sure, it might just be a slow drip that’s wasting water. But what about that one in the cabinet under your sink that’s causing the cabinets to rot and mold? It starts small, but this little drip can lead to needing mold mitigation and cabinet replacement, especially if you go to sell your house and it comes up on an inspection. Taking care of that small leak now can save you money later.

Does your house have a sump pump? It never fails that sump pumps go out in the middle of the night and you wake up to water. In the best scenario, your crawl space is a little damp until you replace it. The worst case is that you flood your finished basement. Those pumps are actually pretty cheap, but if no one is inspecting it on a regular basis, you won’t know it needs to be replaced until there’s a problem.

When was the last time you took a walk around the outside of your house to inspect it for issues? From loose siding to plants touching the foundation to standing water to hairline cracks… there are plenty of things you can see if you know what to look for – and most of them are easy to fix if you jump on it quickly.

These are just a few of the many things TruBlue can help you find and fix, especially if you sign up for our House Care Plus a total house care maintenance program. With Total House Care, which is available as a monthly or a quarterly package, our technicians will come out at your scheduled time, inspect your home, look for issues, make repairs or let you know what kind of work needs to be done. And we won’t leave you with the chore of finding contractors – either we can do the work for you or, if it’s a service we can’t provide, we’ll find you someone who can.
