Meet the Owner

  • Owners' of TruBlue of Birmingham Roxanne and Rick Batson and Mur Feldman stand next to each other.

Roxanne & Rick Batson and Mur Feldman

Thank you for taking the time to get to know our company and our team. We are Roxanne Batson, Mary Anne Feldman, Rick Batson. We opened TruBlue Total House Care of Birmingham in order to help people like us! If you need someone to do small repairs, special projects and/or maintenance for your home, we're here for you! Our mission is simple: Help seniors, busy families and home owners maintain their home by providing total house care services. Like most of our clients, we’ve gone through the process of running a busy household and trying to maintain a home while working full-time. It can be so difficult to find the time to do those everyday house projects while trying to enjoy spending time with your family and doing the things you love. With TruBlue, you can get those weekends back without sacrificing the important maintenance on your home. We offer handyman services, real estate repairs, security system installation, commercial property maintenance, seniors preventative home safety services, and seasonal work. In addition to our one-time services, we also offer House Care Plus, a monthly or quarterly home maintenance program, which is perfect for busy families and seniors looking to age in place. We are especially passionate about working with seniors. We have each been faced with the challenges of helping our aging parents stay in their homes and we understand they need help to maintain their home in order to prevent safety issues and deterioration that affects the value. The simplest things become difficult, especially when mobility is affected. Many of our clients are adult children who just want to make sure Mom and Dad have help when they need it. We were all friends long before we opened TruBlue of Birmingham. Roxanne and Mary Anne previously owned a business together and sold educational technology to schools for more than a decade. Before that, Roxanne worked as a financial consultant for Merrill Lynch after 6 years with Southern Living Magazine, where she worked as a Cooking School program coordinator. Mary Anne, who has a background as a teacher and a coach, owned FirstLight Home Care until she sold the business a few years ago. Rick recently retired a few years ago as the President of TurnerBatson Architects, a third-generation architectural firm. After a few years of retirement, we decided we weren’t ready to stay retired. TruBlue enables us to use our complimentary experiences to serve clients in the best way possible. Having someone you trust you can call to help with the maintenance of your home is something we all need and we’re looking forward to being that resource. Our team works in Birmingham, Homewood, Mountain Brook, Vestavia, Hoover, and the surrounding areas and we look forward to meeting you!

Trendy Renovations to Boost Property Value
Every property's value can be boosted with the right renovations! Whether your home is from the 1950s or from the 2010s, it's important to consider what you can do to improve how much it's worth. These are the top renovations that are trending this year and why they can add so much value to your home. Update Your Siding Your siding needs to be updated for buyers to even consider walking into your home. Board and batten steel siding has been a hot topic in recent years, as buyers want siding they can have faith in and love the large range of options of color. If your siding is older, discolored, cracked, or warped, it's a good idea to update it before your home hits the market. Attic Bedroom Conversions This update has become incredibly popular within the last couple of years and can add up to fifty thousand dollars to the value of your home, depending on where you are. Attic spaces are generally underutilized, and by turning them into extra bedrooms, you can create more space for a larger family to move into. This can be time-intensive, but make sure you make everything out of sturdy and predictable materials. If you put in a cheap ladder or inexpensive spiral stairs, buyers won't feel safe turning this into a bedroom they actually use. Increase Energy Efficiency Energy efficiency is on the minds of every buyer. Nobody wants to overpay to keep their home at a temperature they’ll enjoy, so it’s a good idea to invest in ensuring your home traps in the temperatures and runs as efficiently as possible. One of the largest ways to do this is to install polyiso exterior wall insulation. Regardless of what siding you have, this insulation will block out the weather and keep the interior of your home at a comfortable temperature. It's also a great idea for homeowners to invest in getting smart thermostats. These are a must for almost every property and will keep your home at a comfortable temperature at all times. Not only will you be able to control your home's temp no matter where you are in the world, but you can also keep an eye on trends and figure out what your usage may be higher in some weeks. Updating Old Windows How old are your windows? Older windows aren't the best for your HVAC system and will make your energy bill skyrocket. If you have older windows, and a couple of them are out of date, but they're all generally functional, consider a minor repair or update. Replacing portions of your windows will save you money while still ensuring your windows look like a matching set that makes sense together. Keep Moisture Away Moisture is no property’s friend. Water can cause rot, mold, flooding, and more, so it’s important that you take the time to guide it away from your house. You can do this through outdoor drainage and landscape drainage grates, by planting a rain garden, or even by adding a sump pump. Buyers are terrified of their homes flooding, for a good reason, so invest in making your property as flood-proof as possible. Minor Remodels Small remodels can change everything while adding the highest return on investment you can find! Instead of updating your entire kitchen, or doing a full bathroom remodel, take on small portions of these rooms and update those instead. Pay attention to how much money you spend, and avoid putting too much time and work into these while still making them look good. A full remodel brings in a far lower return on investment, so it’s important to straddle that line. Add Visual Intrigue Visual intrigue is a must! This mighty tool can convince anyone that a property is worth more than it may actually be and gives you a chance to guide buyers' eyes to what you want them to see. From clever use of a white shiplap wall in an otherwise boring space to fun tile in the bathroom that creates a zen and spa feeling, have a little fun with your property. Avoid going too overboard or severe since this might scare buyers away. Create Outdoor Spaces Outdoor spaces are king when you're trying to build value into your property! This means adding spaces where you can gather with friends and family and room for you to feel like you can relax for a while. These spaces can be anywhere from a deck to an exterior kitchen or a lounging area around a fire pit, but be aware of how much money you're spending. Avoid spending more than 10% of your home's current value on the lawn, or you may struggle to recoup it. Your Property Is Valuable Whether this is your first property or your fifth, it's important to keep up with the trends. Follow some of these renovations to watch your property's value skyrocket in no time! For any home updates that you need help tackling, your local TruBlue is the perfect crew. 4 New TruBlue Locations!

4 New TruBlue Locations!

October 12, 2022
TruBlue is experiencing record growth this year. In the past quarter we have welcomed 5 new owners into our TruBlue family. Our new locations span as south as St. Petersburg Florida, as north as Des Moines Iowa, and as far east as Colorado Springs. We are also excited for the many new locations that are currently under development. The first location to open this quarter is TruBlue of Colorado Springs and North Colorado Springs. These locations are owned and operated by Obie Pilkington. Pilkington is a veteran who served a 20 year career in the Military, and was ready to become his own boss. Near the end of his Army career, Pilkington was battling cancer and saw first hand how many seniors and veterans need better house care. When he found TruBlue it was the missing puzzle piece. He soon signed with us and he's excited to support his local community. Our second TruBlue is Winter Garden, located in the greater Orlando Florida area. Michael Holton is the proud owner of this location. His prior background was in project management with IBM. As a busy family man, Holton saw exactly how crazy homeownership can be. There’s always a different person for every job, and tracking down the right guy is a tricky job. With TruBlue, Holton knew he could use his operations background to be the one-stop solution for home maintenance in his community. In St. Petersburg Florida, Spencer and Angela Brooks have opened their first TruBlue. This married couple saw first hand the desire for age-in-place home modifications. This desire sparked their initial interest in TruBlue. Their business will officially open in early November. This power duo will be a great edition to the sunshine state and is looking forward to making a positive impact. Our last team to open their own TruBlue is JD Nelson & Scott Edwards in West Des Moines, Iowa. These two are not strangers to being business partners. In fact they already own two successful businesses of their own in Home Inspections, and Mold & Odor Removal. TruBlue provides extra services that their previous operations were lacking. With their enhanced range of services, and previous ownership experience, we expect to see big things out of our first Iowa franchise. If you're thinking of opening a TruBlue, the total investment estimate for a TruBlue Total House Care franchise ranges from $65,050–$91,400.
