    John R. Brethour, Jr.

Owning property can be a hassle. Whether you are a one-house family with a busy schedule, a senior looking to age in place or someone with multiple properties, staying on top of even regular maintenance can be a challenge. When you work with TruBlue of Easton, one call can help you with everything from monthly maintenance packages or cleaning services to handyman or emergency repairs. I’m John Brethour, Jr., the owner of TruBlue of Easton. At TruBlue, we offer handyman services, maid and cleaning services, lawn care, emergency repairs, seasonal projects, a home watch program, a senior accessibility program and more. TruBlue is a great option for busy families and seniors who want the comforts of home without worrying about property maintenance as well as homeowners, realtors and rental property owners who need to quickly get homes move-in ready and keep them maintained. We also offer commercial services for business clients. I own some rental properties out of state and I hire property managers to keep them maintained. That got me thinking, there has to be a market for people who want that same kind of service for their own place. I had that in the back of my mind, but I wasn’t sure how you’d make that work, but then I found TruBlue. TruBlue provides that kind of full-service property management and, as a franchise, they had the details worked out. When you hire TruBlue, you can forget about having to call different contractors for every job. I can take care of your everyday maintenance and, if something big comes up, like a roof repair, I can coordinate those repairs with my trusted network of service professionals. TruBlue is a great solution for all your house care needs, whether you’re looking for someone to handle the ongoing maintenance of your home or business or you have a special project in mind. And, because you’re working directly with me as a franchisee and not just another technician, you can trust that the people in your home are licensed, bonded and insured professionals who will do the job right. TruBlue of Easton serves Easton, Wind Gap, Nazareth, Stockertown and the neighboring communities. To assist those with ongoing home care needs or who want to take property management off their plates entirely, TruBlue recently rolled out a monthly house care program, which enables our clients to contract with us for regular property maintenance, including seasonally appropriate inspection items, maid services, lawn care and more. While these services are great for anyone, they are especially helpful for seniors who want to age in place in a safe and comfortable home as well as busy families and those caring for older family members. I am also the president of L4 Enterprises, LLC, which specializes in statistical consulting, psychometrics, program evaluation and statistical training. Prior to that, I was the Associate Director of Analytics for Roger Green and Associated, where I worked with pharmaceutical marketing research data. I also have experience in public safety and am a United States Army veteran. I retired from the United States Army Reserves in December of 2016. I have my bachelor’s degree in physics from the Virginia Military Institute and my master’s degree in psychology from Fort Hays State University. I’m looking forward to learning about your home or properties and helping you maintain them in the best way possible.

January is National Bath Safety Month, and we’re here to talk to you about how to make bath time safer for everybody. Bath safety is vitally important, especially when it comes to Seniors and young Children. If you have to take care of one or both, it makes extra sense to take bath safety extra seriously. For seniors over 65, slips and falls account for approximately 60% of injuries and deaths, of these falls over 80% occur in the bathroom. It goes without saying that bath safety is for everyone no matter their age, and even a bubble bath can be dangerous without proper precautions. Luckily, there are simple measures that we can all take to make bath time fun, relaxing, and most importantly, safe. Let’s start with the small easy changes that can create a huge difference. The first thing to do is make sure that you’re thoroughly cleaning your tubs. Leftover soap residue, remnants from conditioners, body washes, & shampoos, and even your body's natural oils can make the bathtub slippery and hazardous. Overall increasing the chance for an accident. Cleaning your tub on a regular basis should decrease the chances of a slip. You can also install non-slip bath mats at the bottom of your tubs and showers. This will create a grippy surface for your feet. This install is done cheaply and creates a large safety impact on a small budget. Just as you put a mat in your tub, put a non-slip bath mat outside of the tub so your wet feet don’t slide and slip on the floor as you exit your bath. When bathing a small child you should never overfill the tub. Water to the brim might seem like a great idea, but little children can drown in as low as 4 inches of water. Only use as much water as necessary and never leave a child unattended in the bathroom. You should avoid bubble baths. Bubbles certainly make bath time fun, but oftentimes the bubbles will irritate sensitive skin making it red and itchy. Consider using bath toys or washable tub paint as an exciting alternative to keep your little ones attention. When ensuring the safety of the elderly, we can take some extra precautions in the bathroom. To help ease the transition in and out of the bathtub you can install a grab bar. The extra sturdiness provided by the grab bar will help seniors who might not be able to balance on their own in the shower otherwise. Consider adding a shower bench, along with a hand held shower head so that seniors can wash themselves while safely seated. The last thing to consider is switching out a basic tub for a walk-in tub. These tubs are easier to get in and out of and have a seat that’s built in. These tubs can be a worthwhile investment for seniors who are serious about Aging-in-Place, and staying independent for longer. Your local TruBlue can help you make these changes in your home. We are certified to perform Senior Home Maintenance upgrades and installations as well as make recommendations based on your house’s specific needs. We can install grab bars, change your hardware in the bathroom and some TruBlue franchises can even clean your tubs.
We were featured in December's issue of McKnights Home Care, which brings its readers the latest in home care industry news. Their article is titled, Home safety becoming integral part of home care, growth of TruBlue reveals. It talks about our president, Sean Fitzgerald, and his stance on the importance of accessible home maintenance for our Seniors. The article also mentions our partnership with Right at Home, which offers companion care, personal care and speciality care for seniors around their homes, and our partnership with The Helper Bees, a company that works with insurance to help support their similar Age-in-Place initiatives. This Age-in-Place initiative has been gaining traction since 2020 when the Global Pandemic started. Understandably, the desire to Age-in-Place is stronger than ever and TruBlue has a real opportunity to positively impact the lives of our senior population. You can read the full article HERE.
December is full of many holidays, hectic schedules and all around craziness. It’s not uncommon to put holiday lights up around your property, trees in your living rooms, wreaths in your windows. By January, Kinaras and Menorahs had both been lit, the ball has dropped and most of us are trying to find balance in our old routines again. The holiday season certainly puts your homes and selves through the ringer. Kids are home from school for the holidays, and relatives and guests travel in and out of your own homes. The added wear and tear might mean that your house requires some TLC and post holiday decompression of its own. It can be hard to find the motivation to start cleaning up the house and resetting for the new year. In a study conducted by People Magazine, 54% of Americans confessed that the last thing they wanted to do was to clean up their homes once the festivities had ended. To help aid from the transition here are 5 easy things that you can do to reset after the holiday chaos has ended: Start with Trash: starting with trash is often the easiest way to remove the visual clutter from your space that makes it seem extra messy. To do this, take a large trash bag around your home and start chucking the rubbish in the bag. You can also do this with the recyclables as well. Put Things in Their Homes: Everything in your house should have a home, or someplace that it belongs. For example, your remote goes in the room with your TV, laundry goes in a hamper or into the dresser/closet. Go around the house and put things into their proper places. Once items are in their homes, you’re left with ‘homeless’ items. To create a home for them ask yourself, “where would I look for this item” and then take it to that place. Take Down Holiday Decor: Put the tree away, take the wreaths out of the windows and take the holiday lights down. Removing these items from sight mentally reset your mind that the holidays are truly done. Clean: Run the vacuum cleaner/sweep and mop the floors to remove any of the dirt and dust caused by your families coming and leaving your homes. Wipe down your surfaces with a disinfectant to remove the germs off of your surfaces, don’t forget commonly touched places such as door knobs or light switches. Repairs & Projects: Sometimes the holidays can inadvertently cause damage to your house. Other times there are projects that you wanted to accomplish before the holidays were here but you ran out of time. Now is the time to complete your maintenance tasks. Don’t feel like you need to tackle them alone though, call TruBlue to expertly navigate your projects and repairs so that you can get back to a normal routine and relax after all the fun has been had.
